This medication is employed in individuals with food allergies to avert severe reactions to foods. Additionally, it’s used in the treatment and prevention of inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis. Cromoglycate falls under the category of medications known as mast cell stabilizers. Its mechanism involves thwarting mast cells, which play a role in allergic and inflammatory responses, from releasing substances like histamines, thereby mitigating skin and gastrointestinal issues.
Uses and Dosage
Take this medication orally 15 to 20 minutes before meals, typically four times daily or as instructed by your doctor.
Swallow the capsule whole. If you’re using this medication for food allergy or if swallowing capsules is challenging, it’s advisable to take it as a solution. To prepare the solution, open the capsule when ready to take your dose, and dissolve the contents into a small amount of hot water. Add cold water, mix well, and consume the entire mixture. Avoid mixing with other liquids or foods, and refrain from preparing the solution in advance.
Dosage is determined based on your medical condition, age, and response to treatment.
Use this medication consistently to derive maximum benefit. To aid in adherence, take it at the same times each day.
Do not discontinue this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor. Abrupt cessation may worsen your condition. Your doctor may need to gradually reduce your dose.
