Indications
This combination medication is prescribed to address specific skin infections. Its formulation includes neomycin, an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth, and fluocinolone, a medium-strength corticosteroid that alleviates swelling, itching, and redness of the skin. It exclusively targets bacterial skin infections and is ineffective against other types of skin infections such as those caused by fungi or viruses.
Uses and Dosage
This medication is designed for topical application only. Before use, ensure your hands are clean. Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of the medication to the affected area and gently massage it in as directed by your doctor, typically 2 to 4 times a day. After use, wash your hands unless you are treating the hands themselves.
Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the treated area unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
Avoid using excessive amounts of this medication or applying it more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed.
Doing so will not expedite the healing process but may increase the risk of side effects. This product is not recommended for use over a large area of the body. Do not continue using this product beyond one week unless directed by your doctor.
Take care to avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, or nose. If accidental contact occurs, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water.
For optimal results, use this medication consistently at the same times each day.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve after one week of treatment.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- burning, itching, crusting, peeling of treated skin
- dry skin
- mild irritation, redness, or dryness
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- skin rash
- itching or hives
- swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
- decreased hearing, ringing in the ears
- trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
- thinning or wrinkling of the skin
Caution
- Before using this product, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to neomycin, fluocinolone, aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin, tobramycin), or if you have any other allergies. Inactive ingredients in the product may also trigger allergic reactions or other complications.
- Prior to using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist.
- This medication should not be utilized to treat an infection in the outer ear canal if the eardrum is perforated (torn).
- Prolonged or extensive use of corticosteroid medications can diminish your body’s ability to respond to physical stress.
- Before undergoing surgery, emergency treatment, or in case of serious illness or injury, inform your doctor or dentist if you are currently using or have recently used this medication.
- Although unlikely, prolonged use of this medication may temporarily impede a child’s growth. Ensure regular check-ups with the doctor so that your child’s height can be monitored.
- During pregnancy, use this medication only when clearly necessary. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is uncertain whether this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

How long should I use Neo-Synalar?
Only use Neo-Synalar for as long as your provider has prescribed it to you. The steroid part of this medication can put you at risk for more infections, and the antibiotic part can cause kidney or hearing problems if it’s used over a wide area for a long period of time.
Should I cover my skin with a bandage after applying Neo-Synalar?
No, don’t cover up the area where you applied Neo-Synalar unless told to do so by your provider. Dressings or coverings over this medication can cause your body to absorb more medication than it needs, which can lead to more side effects.
