Indications

Aminobenzoate potassium is prescribed for the treatment of specific skin disorders, including dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and Peyronie’s disease. It facilitates increased flexibility in the skin and softening of plaques. Potassium para-aminobenzoate is believed to enhance oxygen utilization within the skin, contributing to its therapeutic effects.

Uses and Dosage

Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally with food, typically 4 to 6 times daily.

If you’re using tablets, crush the prescribed amount and dissolve them in a full glass (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) of cold water or juice. Stir thoroughly and consume the entire mixture immediately.

For capsules, take the prescribed dose with a full glass (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) of water, juice, or milk to minimize stomach discomfort.

When using the powder in packet form, blend your dose in a full glass (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) of cold water or citrus juice. Stir well until dissolved, then drink the entire mixture promptly. If water is used, you may also have a citrus or carbonated beverage afterward to eliminate the taste of the medication.

Dosage depends on your medical condition and response to therapy.

Consistently take this medication to derive maximum benefit. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. It may take 2 months or longer before symptoms improve.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:

  • loss of appetite

Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:

  • nausea
  • blue-colored skin;
  • fever, chills, cough, sore throat
  • low blood sugar–headache, hunger, sweating, irritability, dizziness, fast heart rate, and feeling anxious or shaky

  • Before starting potassium para-aminobenzoate, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have an allergy to it or any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other issues.
