Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide shampoo is utilized for the treatment of lice infestations in adults and children aged 2 years and older. Lice are small insects that attach themselves to the skin on the head, body, or pubic area. Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide belong to a class of medications known as pediculicides. They function by effectively killing lice.
Uses and Dosage
Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide are available in shampoo form for application to the skin and hair. Typically, it is applied to the skin and hair in two or three treatments, with the second treatment administered 7-10 days after the first one. In some cases, a third treatment may be necessary, as advised by your doctor.
Use pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide shampoo precisely as directed. Do not exceed or reduce the dosage, or use it more frequently than directed on the package label or prescribed by your doctor.
The package label provides an estimate of the amount of shampoo required based on your hair length. Ensure you apply enough shampoo to cover your entire scalp area and hair.
Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide shampoo should only be used on the skin, hair, and scalp. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. Refrain from using it on your eyebrows or eyelashes.
In case pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide shampoo comes into contact with your eyes, promptly flush them with water. If irritation persists after flushing, contact your doctor or seek medical assistance immediately.

Caution
- Before starting pyrethrins/piperonyl butoxide treatment, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, chrysanthemum, ragweed, or any other allergens. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other complications.
- Before using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of skin infections.
- Continuous or vigorous scratching of the skin/scalp may result in a bacterial skin infection. Inform your doctor promptly if you notice worsening redness or pus.
- During pregnancy, use this medication only if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is uncertain whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
