What is Hytrin/Terazosin used for?

This medication is for the treatment of high blood pressure. This medication can be used alone or with other high blood medications. This medicine is also used in the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Store Capsule between 68 to 77 degrees F. Protect form light and moisture.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine

What precautions should I follow when taking Hytrin/Terazosin?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Hytrin/Terazosin?

This medicine can cause some unpleasant side effects like sudden drop in blood pressure (which can manifest itself as fainting spells, dizziness, heart palpitations, light-headedness, and drowsiness), priapism (painful and prolonged erection) and impotence. Consult your health care provider immediately if any of these occur.

What are the side effects of Hytrin/Terazosin?

Most severe:  Painful penile erection.

Most common:  Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Weakness; flu-like symptoms; headache; dizziness; lightheadedness; drowsiness. High Blood Pressure: Weakness; back pain; rapid heartbeat; nausea; dizziness; nervousness; abnormal skin sensations; difficulty breathing; nasal congestion.

Other:  Nausea; impotence; blurred vision.

How should I take Hytrin/Terazosin?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take the beginning medication dose at bedtime. If the medication dose is stopped for several days or longer, restart the medication using the beginning medication dose. This medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring mental alertness, coordination, and physical dexterity. Although rare, it is possible for men to suffer from a painful penis erection, sustained for hours and unrelieved by sexual intercourse or masturbation. If this occurs, you should seek immediate medical attention to avoid possible permanent impotence. Regular visits to the health care provider for lab tests may be necessary. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medication. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
