This medicine is used to prevent chest pains due to angina.

When should Imdur/Isosorbide Mononitrate ER not be taken?

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications, if you are using other medicines containing nitrates or nitrites, or if you have recently suffered a heart attack or congestive heart failure.

What precautions should I follow when taking Imdur/Isosorbide Mononitrate ER?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have impairment of heart, lung, liver and kidney functions

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Imdur/Isosorbide Mononitrate ER?

Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. It may take several weeks before you feel the full effects of this medicine. Stopping the use of this medicine suddenly could make your condition much worse. This medicine may cause dizziness, you should be careful while driving, operating machinery, or performing other tasks that demand concentration and alertness.

What are the side effects of Imdur/Isosorbide Mononitrate ER?

Most severe: Vomiting, weakness, wheezing, worsening of angina pectoris, yeast infection

Most common: Abdominal pain, abnormal hair texture, abnormal heart sounds, abnormal or terrifying dreams, abnormal vision, acne, anemia, anxiety, back pain, bacterial infection, black stools, breast pain, bronchitis, chest pain, confusion, constipation, coughing, decreased sex drive, depression, diarrhea, difficult or labored breathing, difficulty concentrating, diminished sense of touch, drooping eyelid, dry mouth, earache, excessive amount of urine, fatigue, fever, fluid retention and swelling, flu-like symptoms, flushing, frozen shoulder, gas, general feeling of illness, heart attack, heart failure, heart murmur, hemorrhoids, high blood pressure, hot flashes, impotence, inability to sleep, increased mucus from the lungs, increased sweating, indigestion, inflamed eyes, inflammation of the stomach, inflammation of the tongue, inflammation of the vagina, intolerance of light, irregular heartbeat, itching, joint pain, kidney stones, leg ulcer, loose stools, low blood pressure, migraine, muscle and/or bone pain, muscle weakness, nasal or sinus inflammation, nausea, nervousness, palpitations (throbbing or fluttering heartbeat), paralysis, perforated eardrum

Other: Pneumonia, purple or red spots on the skin, rapid heartbeat, rash, ringing in the ears, severe pain in calf muscles during walking, sleepiness, slow heartbeat, sore throat, stomach ulcer with or without bleeding, stuffy nose, tingling or pins and needles, tremor, twisted neck, urinary tract infection, varicose veins, vertigo

How should I take Imdur/Isosorbide Mononitrate ER?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
