Description
Indications
Losartan is a medication employed to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) and safeguard the kidneys against harm caused by diabetes. It is also utilized to decrease the probability of strokes in individuals with high blood pressure and an enlarged heart.
By reducing high blood pressure, losartan helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, and kidney complications. Losartan is classified as an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), which operates by easing blood vessels, allowing blood to circulate more efficiently.
Uses and Dosage
Losartan is administered orally in tablet form, usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food. Take losartan at approximately the same time each day to facilitate adherence. Take losartan exactly as directed, without altering the dose frequency or quantity.
Initially, your doctor may prescribe a low dosage of losartan, which may be gradually increased over time.
If your child cannot swallow the tablet, consult your doctor or pharmacist who can offer a liquid formulation of the medication.
Although losartan manages high blood pressure, it does not cure it. During the first week of treatment, you may experience a decrease in blood pressure, but the full benefits of losartan may not be evident for three to six weeks. Even if you feel better, continue taking losartan, and do not discontinue use without consulting your physician.
