Indications
Trolamine salicylate is employed for the relief of minor aches and pains associated with muscles and joints, including conditions like arthritis, backache, and sprains. This medication falls under the category of drugs known as salicylates.
Uses and Dosage
This medication is designed for external use on the skin only. Avoid contact with the eyes, inside the nose or mouth, and the vaginal area. In case of accidental contact, flush the affected area with plenty of water.
Apply the medication to the affected area no more than 3 to 4 times a day, ensuring a gentle and thorough rub-in. Following application, wash your hands unless you are treating the hands themselves.
Do not use this medication on broken or irritated skin. Refrain from bandaging or tightly wrapping the affected area and avoid applying heat, such as using a heating pad, as doing so may heighten the risk of side effects.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists for more than 7 days, worsens, or recurs. Seek medical help promptly if you suspect a serious medical problem.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- burning sensation at application site
- dry skin
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- blistering/peeling/redness/irritation at the application site
- nausea/vomiting
- ringing in the ears
- rash
- itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
- severe dizziness
- trouble breathing
Caution
- Before initiating the use of trolamine salicylate, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any known allergies to it, aspirin, other salicylates (such as salsalate), or any other allergens. Inactive ingredients in the product may have the potential to cause allergic reactions or other complications.
- Prior to using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have a history of asthma or nasal polyps.
- As this drug shares similarities with aspirin, it is important to note that children and teenagers under 18 years of age should avoid using this drug if they have chickenpox, flu, an undiagnosed illness, or have recently received a vaccine. In such cases, there may be an increased risk of Reye’s syndrome, a rare but serious illness.
- Notify your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. This medication has the potential to harm an unborn baby and may lead to complications during normal labor and delivery. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy from 20 weeks until delivery. If necessary between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, the lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest possible time. This medication should not be used after 30 weeks of pregnancy. Discuss the associated risks and benefits with your doctor.
- The passage of this product into breast milk is unknown. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding if you are considering the use of trolamine salicylate.
