Description

Indications

Fluticasone oral inhalation is indicated for the relief of respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea, chest constriction, wheezing, and coughing, which result from asthma in both adult and pediatric patients. This medication belongs to the class of corticosteroids, and its mechanism of action involves mitigating airway inflammation and reducing irritation, thereby facilitating improved respiratory function.

Uses and Dosage

Administer this medication through oral inhalation as prescribed by your physician, typically once daily. The dosage will be determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Inhale each dose deeply to ensure effective delivery of the medication to your lungs. Sensing the taste or sensation of the drug during inhalation, or the absence thereof, are both considered normal. Avoid exhaling into the inhaler device.

If you are utilizing other inhalers simultaneously, maintain a minimum interval of 1 minute between administrations of each medication, and utilize this corticosteroid as the final inhaler.

To prevent the occurrence of dry mouth, hoarseness, and oral yeast infections, perform gargling and mouth rinsing with water after each use, spitting out the rinse water without swallowing it.

Consistently adhere to the regular use of this medication in order to maximize its benefits. Optimal efficacy is achieved when the medication is administered at evenly spaced intervals. To facilitate adherence, establish a consistent time each day for medication administration.

Refrain from increasing your dosage, using the drug more frequently, or discontinuing its use without first consulting your doctor.

If you are currently taking another corticosteroid orally (such as prednisone) on a regular basis, do not discontinue usage unless instructed by your doctor. Sudden discontinuation may result in withdrawal symptoms (such as weakness, weight loss, nausea, muscle pain, headache, fatigue, dizziness). To mitigate the risk of withdrawal symptoms, your doctor may gradually reduce the dosage of your previous medication once you commence treatment with fluticasone. Promptly notify your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any withdrawal symptoms.

It may take up to 2 weeks or longer before the full therapeutic effects of this medication are realized. Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen.

Familiarize yourself with the inhalers designated for daily use (controller drugs) and those to be employed in the event of sudden deterioration in breathing (quick-relief drugs). Consult your doctor in advance regarding the appropriate course of action if you experience new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, increased sputum production, deteriorating peak flow meter readings, nocturnal breathing difficulties, increased frequency of quick-relief inhaler usage (more than 2 days per week), or insufficient efficacy of the quick-relief inhaler.

Educate yourself about situations in which you can manage sudden breathing problems independently and when immediate medical assistance is required.

FAQ

How quickly does Arnuity Ellipta work?

Arnuity Ellipta is not a rescue inhaler like albuterol. It works by reducing the inflammation and swelling of the airways in the lungs over time. It can take up to 2 weeks before you feel the full effects.

Why do I have to rinse my mouth after using Arnuity Ellipta?

The reason you have to rinse your mouth is because when you use an inhaled steroid, such as Arnuity Ellipta, you can develop oral thrush (oral candidiasis).
