What is Besivance used for?

Betagan is an ophthalmic anti-infective medication that belongs to the quinolone drug class. Its generic name is besifloxacin. It is used to treat an eye illness called conjunctivitis (commonly known as pink eye) caused by bacterial infection.

When there is a bacterial eye infection, the body’s inflammatory response is alerted as a defense mechanism. Therefore, causing blood vessels (veins, arteries, and capillaries) to dilate, resulting in redness.

Besifloxacin works by negating the bacterial activity that is responsible for causing infection. It suppresses DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial growth and multiplication. As a result, it clears up the infection.
