Betoptic eyedrops uses

Betoptic is an ocular beta-blocker medication that is also known as betaxolol. It is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) of patients suffering from glaucoma to prevent blindness.

Betaxolol can be taken alone or combined with other drugs, as prescribed by your doctor.

How does Betoptic work?

When patients have increased intraocular pressure (IOP), there is an abnormality between the in and out of the normal fluid cycle in your eyes called aqueous humor. This imbalance creates high pressure inside the eye that can damage your optic nerve; as a result, glaucoma occurs.

Betoptic, when taken correctly, functions as a selective beta-blocker, constricting the blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries) in your eyes. This constriction reduces the amount of fluid produced in the eyes. As a result, its re-balances the fluid cycle and maintains the intraocular pressure at a healthy level.

Betoptic eyedrops Dosage

The number of times and the amount you are going to use this drug will depend on the evaluation of your healthcare provider. It will depend on your current condition, age, and response to treatment. This drug is readily available in Betoptic eyedrops at 0.5 concentration.

The recommended daily dose for this eye solution is one to two drops in the affected eye twice daily. Do not exceed and alter your dosage without consulting your doctor first.

Directions

To begin, thoroughly read all medication instructions and information. Use the medication precisely as instructed. If there is anything that you do not understand or are unsure about how to use this eye drop, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Before administering this medication, wash your hands. Remove the cap and make sure that the dropper is clean before putting it in your eyes.

When instilling these eye drops, find your most comfortable position. Begin by tilting your head backward. Pull the lower lid down gently to create a pocket, then look up. Make sure the dropper does not come into contact with your eyes. Squeeze one drop of Betoptic into the pocket slowly and close your eyes for at least two minutes.

You can press the inside corner of your eye while your eyes are closed to avoid the drops from entering your throat. Do not blink or wipe your eyes. After applying the medication, make sure to wash your hands.

If you need to use more than one drop, repeat these steps and wait five minutes before administering the next drop. However, if you are still using other ophthalmic medicine, wait for at least 10 minutes before applying it. Avoid taking this drug into the mouth.
