Indications
The combination of fluticasone and vilanterol is utilized for the management of symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness which are commonly associated with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD encompasses a group of lung and airway diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Fluticasone belongs to the class of medications known as steroids, and it operates by reducing inflammation in the airways. Vilanterol belongs to the class of medications referred to as long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs). Its mechanism of action involves relaxing and dilating the air passages within the lungs, thus facilitating easier breathing.
Uses and Dosage
The combination of fluticasone and vilanterol is administered through a specialized inhaler as a powder to be inhaled orally. Typically, it is inhaled once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Carefully follow the instructions on the prescription label, and seek clarification from your doctor or pharmacist on any unclear details. It is vital to use the medication as prescribed by your doctor, neither more nor less, and not more frequently than prescribed.
During sudden asthma or COPD attacks, do not use fluticasone and vilanterol inhalation. Your doctor will instead prescribe a short-acting (rescue) inhaler for such instances.
Fluticasone and vilanterol inhalation effectively manages the symptoms of asthma and COPD but does not cure the underlying conditions. Continue using the medication even when you feel well, and do not discontinue its use without consulting your doctor, as doing so may cause a recurrence of symptoms.

Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:

- shaking of a part of your body that you cannot control
- joint pain
- runny nose or sore throat
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- body aches or pain
- chills
- cough
- difficulty with breathing
- ear congestion
- fever
- headache
- loss of voice
- muscle aches
- sneezing
- sore throat
- stuffy or runny nose
- unusual tiredness or weakness
Caution
Before using this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies, specifically to fluticasone or vilanterol, or to any other allergens. This product may contain inactive ingredients, such as milk proteins, which could lead to allergic reactions or other complications.
Prior to using this medication, discuss your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure, bone loss, depression, diabetes, eye problems, heart problems, recent infection, liver problems, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), or seizures.
Fluticasone/vilanterol has the potential to cause QT prolongation, which could lead to serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat, and other symptoms such as severe dizziness or fainting that require immediate medical attention.
If you have switched from taking corticosteroids by mouth to using this inhaler within the past 12 months, or if you have been using this product in higher-than-usual doses for an extended period, it may be more difficult for your body to respond to physical stress. Before undergoing surgery, emergency treatment, or if you suffer from a severe illness/injury, inform your doctor or dentist that you are using this medication, or have used a corticosteroid taken by mouth in the past 12 months.
Fluticasone/vilanterol may increase your susceptibility to infections or worsen existing infections. Avoid contact with individuals who have infections that can spread to others, such as chickenpox, measles, or the flu.
This medication may temporarily slow down a child’s growth if used for an extended period. Poorly controlled asthma can also result in stunted growth. Schedule regular check-ups with your doctor to monitor your child’s height.
Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this medication, particularly QT prolongation.
During pregnancy, this medication should only be used when deemed necessary by a medical professional. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk, although similar drugs do. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
