Topical clindamycin is employed for the treatment of acne. This medication belongs to the class of drugs known as lincomycin antibiotics. Its mechanism of action involves slowing or halting the growth of bacteria responsible for causing acne, while also reducing swelling associated with the condition.
Uses and Dosage
Topical clindamycin is available in various forms, including foam, gel, solution, lotion, and pledget (swab), designed for application to the skin. The recommended frequency of application depends on the specific formulation. Generally, the foam and one brand of the gel (Clindagel®) are applied once a day, while the solution, lotion, pledgets, and most gel brands are applied twice a day.
Apply topical clindamycin consistently at approximately the same time(s) every day. Adhere to the prescribed usage, avoiding excess application or more frequent use than directed by your doctor.
Topical clindamycin is exclusively intended for skin application. Refrain from ingesting the medication, and avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. In case of accidental exposure to these areas or broken skin, promptly rinse with ample cool water.
