Description

Indications

Sulindac is a medication belonging to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is prescribed to alleviate pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Sulindac can also be utilized for the treatment of shoulder pain resulting from bursitis and tendinitis, as well as the relief of gouty arthritis symptoms. The mechanism of action of sulindac involves inhibition of the body’s synthesis of a pain-inducing, fever-causing, and inflammation-triggering substance.

Uses and Dosage

Please follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the administration of this medication, taking it orally. Typically, it is taken twice daily, accompanied by a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters), unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Refrain from lying down for a minimum of 10 minutes after taking the medication. In the event of stomach upset, take the medication with food, milk, or an antacid.

The prescribed dosage is determined based on your specific medical condition and response to treatment. To minimize the risk of stomach bleeding and other potential side effects, it is crucial to take this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Under no circumstances should you increase your dosage or exceed the prescribed frequency or duration of use. Have a discussion with your doctor or pharmacist regarding the risks and benefits associated with this medication.

For certain conditions, such as arthritis, it may take 1-2 weeks of regular medication usage to experience the full therapeutic benefits.

If you are taking this medication on an “as-needed” basis (rather than following a regular schedule), note that pain medications are most effective when taken at the initial signs of pain. Delaying administration until the pain intensifies may diminish the medicine’s efficacy.
