Description

FML Eyedrops, with the active ingredient fluorometholone, is a medication prescribed as a short-term therapy for inflammation in the eyes caused by allergies, injury, surgery, or certain irritations in the eye. This drug can be taken alone or in conjunction with others.

FML Drops Dosage

For ophthalmic (eye drop) dose form:
  • Adults: Two to four times a day, place one drop in the afflicted eye. You may take this drug every 4 hours for the first 24 to 48 hours, or as advised by your doctor.
  • Children 2 years and older—Your doctor will choose the dosage.
  • Your doctor will determine appropriate use and dose for children under the age of two.

Direction

  • Before using FML eye drops, remove your contact lenses, and wash your hands.
  • Shake the bottle vigorously.
  • Tilt your head back and drop the number of drops advised into your eye. Some people think lying down is beneficial. Avoid touching the top of the container to your eye or skin, as this can introduce germs into the medicine, resulting in severe eye infections.
  • Keep your eyes closed after you’ve applied your drops. Apply pressure to the inside corner of your eye with your fingertips for one to two minutes. This aids in the retention of the drug in your eye.
  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them and wait at least 15 minutes before replacing them.

Caution

  • At frequent appointments, your eye doctor will inspect your eye(s) to ensure that the drug is working well and is not causing any side effects.
  • This medication may induce glaucoma or cataracts by increasing the pressure within your eye. After cataract surgery, you may experience slow or delayed recovery if you use this drug. To check these issues, you’ll need to have frequent eye exams with your doctor.
  • If you keep steroid medications in your eyes for more than one or two weeks, you risk cornea thinning, optic nerve damage, infection, and the onset of cataracts.
