Nature-Throid tablets are a natural formulation derived from porcine thyroid glands. They are prescribed for the replacement of supplemental therapy in individuals with hypothyroidism of any cause, with the exception of transient hypothyroidism during the recovery phase of subacute thyroiditis. This encompasses thyroid nodules, subacute or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s), multinodular goiter, as well as the management of thyroid cancer. Nature-Throid tablets are also employed as diagnostic agents in suppression tests, aiding in the differentiation of suspected mild hyperthyroidism or assessments of thyroid gland anatomy.
Uses and Dosage
Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally, usually once a day on an empty stomach, 30 minutes to 1 hour before having breakfast.
The prescribed dosage is determined by your medical condition, lab test results, and how your body responds to the treatment. For children, the dosage is also influenced by age and weight.
Consistently use this medication to derive the maximum benefits. Establish a routine by taking it at the same time each day.
Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor first. Typically, thyroid replacement therapy is required for life.
Certain medications (such as cholestyramine, colestipol, colesevelam, antacids, sucralfate, simethicone, iron, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, calcium carbonate, orlistat) can reduce the absorption of thyroid hormone in your body. If you are taking any of these medications, ensure a time gap of at least 4 hours between them and this medication.
Various brands of thyroid hormone are available. Prior to switching brands, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Indications of low thyroid hormone levels include fatigue, muscle discomfort, constipation, dry skin, weight increase, slow heartbeat, and sensitivity to cold. Notify your doctor if your condition worsens or persists after several weeks of using this medication.

Caution

Prior to using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have experienced elevated thyroid hormone levels (thyrotoxicosis), reduced adrenal gland function, heart conditions, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
Older adults might be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, especially symptoms like chest pain and a rapid/pounding/irregular heartbeat.
Based on current information, this drug could be used during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, inform your doctor, as your dosage might require adjustment.
Thyroid hormone can pass into breast milk, but the likelihood of it causing harm to a nursing infant is low. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
