Drug Description:

This medicine is used to prevent asthma in adults and children over 6 years of age. It may also be used to help switch patients from oral to inhaled steroid medicine. It is not indicated for sudden or life-threatening episodes of asthma.Store at controlled room temperature (68 to 77 degrees F). Replace the cover after each use.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take this medicine exactly as directed. Patients should take this medicine as directed since its effectiveness depends on regular use. Do not change your medication schedule without checking with your doctor. This medicine must be inhaled through the mouth. Do not breathe out through the inhaler. Before using, prime the inhaler by holding the unit in an upright position and turning the grip fully to the right, then fully to the left until it clicks. Do not shake the inhaler. While inhaling, hold the inhaler in an upright position (mouthpiece on top) during loading in order to provide the correct dose. Place the mouthpiece between your lips and inhale forcefully and deeply. Rinse the mouth with water (without swallowing) after each use to help prevent infections of the mouth or throat. Do not bite or chew the mouthpiece. Even though you do not sense or taste the powder, you should still be getting the right dose. Improvement in asthma control can occur within 24 hours of beginning treatment; the maximum effect of this medicine may take as long as 1 to 2 weeks, or longer. If symptoms do not occur within that period of time, contact your health care provider. Do not use this medicine with a spacer. Keep the inhaler clean and dry at all times. Avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles. If you are exposed while taking this medicine, contact your health care provider at once. Contact your health care provider at once if your asthma symptoms do not improve with this medicine. If symptoms of withdrawal occur when switching from an oral medicine to an inhaled one (muscle and joint pain, exhaustion; depression), contact your health care provider at once. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medication. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, inhale it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your health care provider or pharmacist at your next appointment.Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine during an acute asthma attack that requires more serious treatmentBefore using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have tuberculosis or any other infection if you have any other medical condition, including infectionsParticular care is needed if you are transferred from oral corticosteroids to this medicine. Contra Indication:

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine during an acute asthma attack that requires more serious treatment

Most severe:  Increased wheezing; tightness in the lungs; infection (fever, chills, sore throat); fainting; severe allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, and tongue).

Most common:  Respiratory tract infection; sinus infection; sore throat; headache; flu-like symptoms; pain; fever; oral infection; nausea; indigestion; back pain; voice change.
