Drug Description:
This medicine is used on the scalp to promote hair regrowth in patients 18 years of age and older who are experiencing gradually thinning hair or gradual loss on the top of the head.Store at controlled room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F).How much medicine you take and how often it is taken depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. This medicine is for topical use only. Do not use in the mouth or near the eyes. Hair growth will be different for every person who uses this medicine. Before use, wash your scalp with a mild shampoo. Follow instructions for application. Wash your hands after using this medicine. Allow the solution to remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours before washing. Wait approximately 4 hours after application before going swimming, and do not allow your scalp to get wet from the rain after applying the solution. Wait until the solution is dry before using other hair care products (eg, hair spray). Temporary hair loss may continue for up to 2 weeks after beginning use with this medicine. Contact your doctor if you continue to lose hair after 2 weeks. Burning or irritation will occur if this medicine comes in contact with the eyes. If this occurs, rinse eyes with large amounts of cool tap water. The initial hair growth will be soft, downy, and colorless. After further use, the new hair should be the same color and thickness as the other hairs on your scalp. If you respond to treatment, you will need to continue using this medicine twice daily for at least 4 months to continue hair regrowth. Up to 12 months of treatment in men or 8 months of treatment in women may be necessary for maximum results and continuous use of this medicine is necessary to prevent recurring hair loss. If you do not see hair regrowth within 12 months (men) or 8 months (women) of use, stop using this medicine and contact your health care provider. This medicine will not improve hair loss caused by grooming methods (eg, ponytails, braiding) or the use of other hair care products that cause scarring or deep burns on the scalp. If you stop using this medicine, your hair loss will recur. Stop using this medicine and contact your health care provider if any of the following occur: Chest pain; rapid heartbeat; faintness; dizziness; sudden unexplained weight gain; swollen hands or feet; redness or irritation on treated areas of the scalp. Do not take over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not apply more medicine or change the dose unless advised to do so by your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider.
