Description

Tri-Luma Cream is a topical therapy for short-term treatment of dark spots related to moderate-to-severe facial melasma.

This drug consists of a triple-combination of active ingredients: Fluocinolone, an anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling steroid; Hydroquinone, a bleaching agent for the skin; and Tretinoin, a kind of vitamin A that aids the skin’s natural renewal process.

Tri-Luma cream for melasma is recommended only for short-term (up to 8 weeks) treatment of melasma of the face, in combination with sun protection like the use of sunscreen.

What is Tri-Luma cream used for?

  • Tri-Luma for hyperpigmentation treatment is an everyday use of this medication. However, if skin darkening is caused by conditions other than melasma, consult a doctor specializing in the skin for options that are suitable for your condition.
  • Tri-Luma is often used to treat melasma for a brief period of time and not for long-term skincare.

Direction

  • Once a day, at least 30 minutes before bedtime, this is administered. Pay attention to your doctor’s directions.
  • Before using this drug, wash your face gently with a light cleanser. Rinse skin and pat it dry.
  • Apply a thin layer of medication to the melasma-affected skin and roughly 1/2 inch of surrounding skin. Keep the medicine away from the lips and wrinkles of your nose.
  • Do not use a bandage to cover the treated skin since this can increase the quantity of medication absorbed through your skin, which might have negative consequences.
  • After administering the drug, wash your hands.

Tri-Luma Cream Side Effects

Some of the most prevalent side effects are as follows:

  • Acne; or
  • Your skin may show signs of minor redness, burning, itching, dryness, or peeling.

Caution

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to fluocinolone/tretinoin/hydroquinone, other corticosteroids, vitamin A-related medicines (e.g., isotretinoin), or any other allergies before using it. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have asthma, open sores or broken skin (especially on the face), or other skin conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis) before taking this medication.
  • In rare situations, excessive skin bleaching may occur, resulting in an unfavorable aesthetic impact in people with darker skin.
  • Effects of too much corticosteroid medicine may be more pronounced in children. Though it is extremely unusual with corticosteroids applied to the skin, if administered for an extended length of time, this may temporarily reduce a child’s pace of growth. However, it is unlikely to have an impact on adult height. Keep track of your child’s height regularly.
