Vytorin Drug Description:

This medicine is used to lower your blood cholesterol.  Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have questions about the medicine’s amount and/or frequency, talk with your healthcare provider. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your healthcare provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider or pharmacist if more than one dose is missed.

This medicine may increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight, and burning may result. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen if exposure to the sun is unavoidable. Depending on the results of these tests, your doctor can determine how much monitoring you will require. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional, even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking it except on your prescriber’s advice. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or similar medications.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with this medicine. The interaction could lead to potentially dangerous effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit and grapefruit juice with your doctor. Do not increase or decrease the number of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.

Most severe: Allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), decreased urine or rust-coloured urine, blurred vision.Most common: Gas, bloating, nausea, stomach upset, heartburn, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, cough, tiredness, headache, or insomnia.Other: Muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by a fever or flulike symptoms or yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal pain, unexplained fatigue, dark-colored urine or pale-colored stools.
