Description

Indications

Vaginal clotrimazole is used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Clotrimazole alleviates symptoms such as vaginal burning, itching, and discharge associated with this condition. As an azole antifungal, it works by inhibiting the growth of the yeast (fungus) responsible for the infection.

Uses and Dosage

Vaginal clotrimazole is available as a cream to be inserted into the vagina and can also be applied to the skin around the vaginal area. The cream should be inserted into the vagina once a day at bedtime for 3 to 7 days, depending on the product instructions. When applying to the outside of the vagina, use the cream twice a day for up to 7 days.

Use clotrimazole exactly as directed, without altering the dosage or frequency.

Vaginal clotrimazole is available over the counter. If you experience vaginal itching and discomfort for the first time, consult a doctor before using clotrimazole. If you have previously been diagnosed with a yeast infection and have the same symptoms again, use the vaginal cream as directed on the package.

Avoid vaginal intercourse and the use of other vaginal products (such as tampons, douches, or spermicides) during your treatment.

You should start to feel better within the first three days of using clotrimazole. If your symptoms do not improve or worsen, contact your doctor.

To apply clotrimazole cream to the external vaginal area, use your finger to apply a small amount to the affected skin.

Apply the dose when you lie down to go to bed, as it works best if you remain lying down after application, except to wash your hands. You may want to wear a sanitary napkin to protect your clothing from stains.

Continue using clotrimazole vaginal cream even if you get your period during treatment.
