Description

Indications

Podofilox solution is employed for the treatment of warts located on the external genital area. It functions by inhibiting the growth of the wart, leading to its eventual detachment. Podofilox is classified under a group of drugs known as antimitotics.

Uses and Dosage

This medication is intended for topical use only. Apply it exclusively to the genital warts identified by your doctor. Do not use this medication on warts around the anus, mucous membranes (such as in the urethra, rectum, and vagina), inside your body, or on any other skin growths.

Typically, use this medication twice daily (morning and evening, every 12 hours) for 3 consecutive days, followed by a 4-day break with no treatment. If the warts persist, you may repeat this 7-day cycle for a total of up to 4 treatment weeks in a row. Adhere strictly to your doctor’s instructions.

Begin by washing the treatment area with soap and water, ensuring it is thoroughly dry. Utilize the provided applicator, dipping it into the solution enough to moisten it without excess dripping. Apply the medication solely to the warts indicated by your doctor, avoiding the surrounding area. A hand mirror may aid in this process.

For warts within skin folds, gently pull the skin apart and apply the medication. Allow the solution to dry before returning the skin folds to their normal position.

Use the applicator only once and dispose of it in a safe manner. Wash your hands with soap and water after each application.

Avoid covering the treated area with bandages or waterproof dressings. However, covering the area with cotton gauze or cotton underwear for the genital region is acceptable.

To maximize the benefits, use this medication regularly. Use a calendar to mark the days for application each week.

Prevent contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, healthy skin, or other areas as specified. If the medication contacts healthy skin, wipe it off immediately and wash the area thoroughly. In case of contact with eyes, nose, or mouth, flush the area with plenty of water for 15 minutes and contact your doctor.

Avoid applying a large amount or covering a large area. Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely. Overuse will not expedite improvement and may increase the risk of side effects.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists after 4 weeks of treatment, worsens, or if new growths appear. Genital warts may recur after treatment.

Caution

  • Before using podofilox, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you may have, as this product might contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or other issues.
  • Discuss your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.
  • Podofilox is not a cure for genital warts. These warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), and podofilox does not eliminate the virus. It helps in the removal of warts, but new warts may form or old warts may reappear during and after treatment.
  • Refrain from sexual intercourse on the days you have applied this medication.
  • Genital warts are typically transmitted through sexual contact. Condoms, whether latex or polyurethane, may assist in preventing the spread of genital warts to your partner. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
  • This medication should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm an unborn baby. Discuss the use of reliable forms of birth control with your doctor. If you become pregnant or suspect pregnancy, inform your doctor immediately.
