The combination of amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide is employed either independently or alongside other medications to address high blood pressure and heart failure in individuals with depleted potassium levels. Amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide belong to a category of drugs known as diuretics, commonly referred to as ‘water pills.’ Their mechanism of action involves prompting the kidneys to eliminate excess water and salt from the body through urine.

Uses and Dosage

The combination of amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide is available in tablet form for oral administration. Typically, it is taken once daily in the morning with food. To facilitate consistent adherence, aim to take amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide at approximately the same time each day.

Follow the prescribed dosage precisely—do not exceed or reduce it, and avoid taking it more frequently than directed by your doctor.

While this medication effectively manages high blood pressure and heart failure, it does not serve as a cure for these conditions. Even if you start feeling well, continue taking amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide as prescribed. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting your doctor.
