Description

Indications

Ketoprofen serves to alleviate pain stemming from diverse conditions like dental pain, menstrual cramps, and muscle aches.

Additionally, it aids in reducing pain, swelling, and joint stiffness associated with arthritis. Classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), ketoprofen functions by inhibiting the body’s production of specific natural substances responsible for inflammation. This action leads to a reduction in swelling, pain, or fever.

Uses and Dosage

Prescription ketoprofen is available in capsule and extended-release (long-acting) capsule forms for oral administration.

Typically, capsules are taken three or four times daily for arthritis or every 6 to 8 hours as needed for pain. Extended-release capsules are generally taken once daily. If taken regularly, ensure to take ketoprofen at consistent times each day.

Nonprescription ketoprofen is in tablet form for oral consumption. It’s usually ingested with a full glass of water or another liquid every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

Take ketoprofen precisely as directed; avoid exceeding or reducing the dosage frequency indicated by your doctor or stated on the label.

To mitigate stomach upset, ketoprofen may be taken with food or milk. Your doctor might also advise taking ketoprofen with an antacid to alleviate stomach discomfort.

Your doctor will likely initiate you on an average dose of prescription ketoprofen and may adjust the dosage based on your response to the medication and any encountered side effects. Follow these instructions meticulously.

Discontinue nonprescription ketoprofen and contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen, if you develop new or unexpected symptoms, if the affected area becomes red or swollen, if your pain persists for more than 10 days, or if your fever persists for more than 3 days.
