Astelin Nasal Spray

Astelin is a steroid-free antihistamine nasal spray that provides relief nasal allergy symptoms such as sneezing, sniffling, congestion, runny nose, hay fever or other seasonal allergies. It works by activating the body’s immune system and blocking the effects of histamine.

Before using this medicine tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications; if you have any other medical conditions like liver, kidney, lung or heart disease.

Do not use Astelin while driving or operating machinery as it may cause drowsiness. Avoid alcohol while using this medicine. Avoid spraying in the eyes.

How to use Astelin Nasal Spray

Before initial use, prime the pump by depressing it 4 times, or until a fine mist appears. When 3 or more days have elapsed since the last use, you should reprime the pump with 2 strokes, or until a fine mist appears.

For ADULTS and children above 12 years, the starting dose is 2 sprays into each nostril twice in a day.

For CHILDREN between 5 and 12 years of age, the starting dose is 1 spray into each nostril twice a day.

Astelin Side Effects

Most severe:Allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Bronchospasm (shortness of breath, tightness in chest, wheezing); or fast or uneven heartbeats.

Most common: Bitter taste, drowsiness or sleepiness, bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds, dizziness, dry mouth, dry nose, irritation, burning or itching in the nose, headache, muscle aches, nausea, sudden attacks of sneezing, sore throat, unusual tiredness or weakness, weight gain.
