This combination medication is employed in the treatment of skin infections. It comprises betamethasone valerate, a medium-strength anti-inflammatory corticosteroid that aids in reducing swelling, redness, and itching. Additionally, it contains neomycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic that functions by halting the growth of bacteria.
Uses and Dosage
This medication is specifically intended for skin use. Refrain from using it on the face, groin, or underarms unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
Before application, ensure to wash your hands. Clean and dry the affected area as directed, then apply a small amount of the medication in a thin layer on the skin, gently rubbing it in. Typically, this is done 2 to 3 times a day or as directed by your doctor.
After use, wash your hands unless you are treating the hands themselves.
Avoid bandaging, covering, or wrapping the treated area unless instructed to do so by your doctor.
Do not use excessive amounts of this medication or apply it more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed.
Doing so will not expedite the healing process but may increase the risk of side effects.
Take care to prevent the medication from coming into contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. If accidental contact occurs, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water. If using the medication near the eyes, exercise caution as it may worsen or elevate pressure in the eyes (glaucoma).
Consistently use this medication at regular intervals to derive the maximum benefit. To aid in remembering, use it at the same times each day.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- stretch marks
- skin thinning/discoloration
- acne
- extreme/unwanted hair growth
- “hair bumps” (folliculitis)
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- unusual/extreme tiredness
- weight loss
- headache
- swelling ankles/feet
- increased thirst/urination
- vision problems
- rash
- itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
- severe dizziness
- trouble breathing
Caution
- Before using this product, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies to betamethasone, gentamicin, corticosteroids (such as dexamethasone, prednisone), aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as amikacin, neomycin, tobramycin), or any other substances. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other complications.
- Prior to using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have poor blood circulation or a weakened immune system.
- In rare cases, prolonged or extensive use of corticosteroid medications on the skin may make it more challenging for your body to respond to physical stress. Before undergoing surgery or emergency treatment, or if you experience a serious illness or injury, inform your doctor or dentist that you are using this medication or have used it within the past few months.
- While it’s unlikely, prolonged use of this medication may temporarily slow down a child’s growth. Ensure regular check-ups with the doctor so your child’s height can be monitored.
- During pregnancy, use this medication only when clearly necessary. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
