Description

What is Bonefos used for?

Bonefos, whose generic name is clodronate disodium, belongs to a group of bisphosphonate drugs. It is a highly effective drug that works primarily on bone tissues to prevent bone loss or weakening, reduce bone pain, and lower blood calcium levels.

This medication is prescribed for people with cancer that has spread to their bones.

How does Bonefos work?

When you have cancer that has spread to your bones, your bones break down (osteoclast) quicker than your body can restore them. As a result, this causes your blood calcium levels to rise.

Bonefos tablets work by suppressing the cells responsible for rapid or abnormal bone breakdown with increased osteolysis. Therefore, it decreases elevated calcium levels in the blood, which helps strengthen and increase bone mass, thereby reducing bone fracture incidence.

Bonefos Dosage

The dosage, strength, and frequency of this drug depend on your medical condition, gender, age, and treatment tolerance. This medication is available in dosages of 400 mg and 800 mg.

Generally, two Bonefos 800 mg pills are the recommended daily dose for adults to stabilize blood calcium levels and bone destruction (osteolysis) as a single therapy or divided into two doses.

The initial daily dose for people with hypercalcemia is 2400 mg or 3200 mg. This dosage can be gradually decreased depending on your physician’s evaluation.

What is the best way to use Bonefos?

It is best to read all prescription directions and information carefully before starting the therapy. Seek medical advice from your healthcare provider or pharmacist if there is anything that you don’t understand about this medicine.
