Description

Indications

Ciprofloxacin otic solution and ciprofloxacin otic suspension are medications utilized to treat outer ear infections in both adults and children. Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution is employed for the treatment of bacterial infections in the eye, including conjunctivitis (pinkeye) and corneal ulcers. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones, and its mode of action involves killing the bacteria responsible for the eye or ear infection.

Uses and Dosage

Ophthalmic ciprofloxacin is available as both a solution and an ointment for application to the eyes.

Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution is typically used frequently, ranging from once every 15 minutes to once every 4 hours while awake, for a duration of 7 to 14 days or longer.

Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic ointment is usually applied three times a day for 2 days, followed by twice a day for 5 days.

Use ophthalmic ciprofloxacin at consistent times every day. Use ophthalmic ciprofloxacin precisely as directed; avoid using more or less of it or using it more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

You should anticipate an improvement in your symptoms during the course of treatment. Contact your doctor if your symptoms persist, worsen, or if you experience other eye-related issues during treatment.

Continue using ophthalmic ciprofloxacin until you have completed the prescription, even if you start feeling better. Discontinuing its use prematurely may result in incomplete resolution of the infection, and the bacteria could develop resistance to antibiotics.

To administer the eye drops, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.
  2. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch the eye or any other surface, and ensure that it is kept clean.
  3. Tilt the head back and pull down the lower lid of the eye using the index finger to form a pocket.
  4. Hold the dropper as close to the eye as possible without making contact, and brace the remaining fingers against the face.
  5. Squeeze the dropper gently to instill a single drop in the pocket created by the lower eyelid while looking upwards.
  6. Remove the index finger from the lower eyelid and keep the eye closed for 2-3 minutes while tilting the head down.
  7. Apply gentle pressure to the tear duct using a finger.
  8. Use a tissue to wipe off any excess liquid from the face.
  9. Wash hands to remove any residual medication.

Ciprofloxacin otic is available as a solution designed to be placed into the ear. Typically, it is used twice a day for a duration of 7 days.

Use ciprofloxacin otic solution at consistent times daily and use it precisely as directed; avoid using more or less of it or using it more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

Ciprofloxacin otic is intended solely for use in the ears and should not be used in the eyes.

You should start experiencing improvement in the first few days of treating outer ear infections with ciprofloxacin otic. If your symptoms do not improve after one week or worsen, contact your doctor.

Inform your doctor if you experience ear pain, continuous ear discharge, or fever following use during ear tube surgery.

Some ciprofloxacin otic ear drops are provided in single-use containers, each containing one dose. Use the liquid immediately after opening the container, and discard the container once you have finished.

Utilize ciprofloxacin otic ear drops until you complete the prescription, even if you start feeling better. Ceasing use prematurely or skipping doses may result in incomplete treatment of the infection, and the bacteria could develop resistance to antibiotics.
