Indications
Fluocinolone acetonide is employed to address scalp psoriasis, a skin condition characterized by inflammation, itching, and redness. Fluocinolone works to diminish these symptoms. Classified as a low- to medium-strength corticosteroid, it effectively reduces swelling, alleviates itching, and minimizes redness associated with scalp psoriasis.
Uses and Dosage
Ensure thorough shaking of the medication before each use.
Application is intended for the scalp only.
To begin, thoroughly wet both hair and scalp. Apply a thin film of the medication to the scalp and massage it in well.
Cover the treated scalp with the provided shower cap, leaving it on for a minimum of 4 hours or overnight. Subsequently, wash off the medication using regular shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
Following application, wash your hands. Take care to avoid contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth. If accidental contact occurs in these areas, rinse with ample water. Refrain from using this medication on the face, underarms, or groin area.
For optimal results, use this medication regularly and at the same time each day. If there is no improvement or if the condition persists or worsens after 2 weeks, inform your doctor.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- mild skin itching, burning, dryness, or other irritation
- temporary hair loss
- swollen hair follicles
- blisters, pimples, or crusting of treated skin
- changes in color of treated skin
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- blurred vision, headache
- thinning skin, easy bruising
- mood changes
- weight gain, puffiness in your face
- muscle weakness, feeling tired
- fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose
Caution
- Before using fluocinolone, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you may have, whether to fluocinolone itself, other corticosteroids (like hydrocortisone, prednisone), or any other substances. Be aware that inactive ingredients, such as peanut oil, present in this product may also cause allergic reactions or other complications.
- Share your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.
- Avoid using fluocinolone if there is an existing infection or sore in the intended treatment area, as the use of this medication can exacerbate skin infections. Notify your doctor promptly if redness, swelling, or irritation does not improve.
- Prolonged use of corticosteroid medications over large skin areas or an extended period may make it challenging for your body to respond to physical stress. Before undergoing surgery, emergency treatment, or in the event of a serious illness or injury, inform your doctor or dentist about your use of this medication, especially if you have used it within the past few months.
- While it’s unlikely, prolonged use of this medication may temporarily slow down a child’s growth. Regular check-ups are recommended to monitor your child’s height.
- During pregnancy, use this medication only when essential. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.
- The passage of this drug into breast milk when applied to the skin is uncertain. Ssimilar medications pass into breast milk when taken orally. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
