Granisetron is indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting induced by cancer chemotherapy and radiation therapy. As a member of the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist class, granisetron exerts its pharmacological action by inhibiting serotonin, a endogenous compound responsible for eliciting the symptoms of nausea and vomiting.

Uses and Dosage

Granisetron is administered orally in tablet form.

For its application in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, it is generally taken one hour before the commencement of chemotherapy. Depending on the prescribed dosage, a subsequent dose may be taken 12 hours after the initial intake.

For preventing nausea and vomiting associated with radiation therapy, granisetron is taken approximately one hour before the commencement of the treatment.

Take granisetron precisely as directed, refraining from altering the dosage or frequency of administration beyond the doctor’s recommendations.
