Indications
Ciclopirox topical lotion is used to treat skin infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infections.. As a member of the antifungal medication class, ciclopirox operates by inhibiting the growth of fungus, effectively curbing its progression and promoting healing.
Uses and Dosage
Apply this medication exclusively on the skin. Before application, ensure the area is clean and completely dry. Follow your doctor’s instructions and gently rub a thin layer of the medication onto and around the affected area, typically twice daily.
After application, wash your hands unless the area being treated includes the hands. Avoid wrapping, covering, or bandaging the treated area unless directed by your doctor.
Do not apply the medication to the eyes, nose, mouth, or inside the vagina. If accidental contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water.
Use this medication consistently to derive the maximum benefit. To aid in remembering, administer it at the same times daily.
Continue using this medication for the entire duration prescribed, even if symptoms diminish after a few days.
Discontinuing the medication prematurely may result in a recurrence of the infection.
Your condition should start to improve within the first week of treatment. Inform your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve after 2 weeks for pityriasis and after 4 weeks for other fungal skin infections.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- redness at the place where you applied ciclopirox
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- irritation, itching, burning, blistering, swelling, or oozing at the place where you applied ciclopirox
- pain at the affected nail(s) or surrounding area
- discoloration or change in shape of nail(s)
- ingrown nail(s)

- Prior to utilizing ciclopirox, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist about any known allergies to this medication or other substances. This product might also contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other adverse effects.
- Before commencing treatment, ensure that you share your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist.
- If you are pregnant, the use of this medication should be considered only when absolutely necessary. Have a comprehensive discussion with your doctor regarding the potential risks and benefits associated with its use during pregnancy.
- It is currently unclear whether this medication is excreted into breast milk. Consulting your doctor before breastfeeding while using ciclopirox is advised.
