Description

Indications

Vaginal terconazole is used to treat vaginal yeast infections by reducing symptoms such as burning, itching, and discharge. As an azole antifungal medication, it works by inhibiting the growth of the yeast fungus responsible for the infection.

Uses and Dosage

Terconazole is designed for vaginal use only.

Before and after application, ensure your hands are clean. Avoid contact with your eyes, and if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.

Follow your doctor’s instructions, typically using the medication once daily at bedtime for either 3 or 7 days, depending on the product and your condition.

Administer the medication using the applicator provided with the cream or suppository. If using the cream, fill the applicator as directed, lie on your back with knees bent, and insert the applicator into the vagina. If using the suppository, insert it with the applicator or your finger. After use, clean the applicator thoroughly with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.

If experiencing itching or burning around the vulva, apply the terconazole cream to the affected area once daily and gently rub it in.

Continue using the medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms improve within 1 to 2 days.

Stopping prematurely may lead to the infection recurring.

You can use terconazole during your menstrual period, but refrain from using tampons or douches. Unscented sanitary napkins are recommended.

Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or returns within 2 months, as you may require a different or additional treatment.

Caution

  • Before starting this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you have, especially to azole antifungal agents like clotrimazole or fluconazole.
  • Disclose your medical history, particularly if you have diabetes, immune system disorders such as HIV-AIDS, or a history of frequent vaginal yeast infections (more than 4 per year).
  • Seek advice from your doctor regarding sexual intercourse while using this product. The suppository form may damage latex condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps, potentially leading to failure and unintended pregnancy. Avoid using these products during suppository treatment and for 3 days afterward. Ask your doctor about alternative forms of barrier protection or birth control, such as polyurethane condoms, during this period, or consider using the cream form of the medication.
  • During pregnancy, use this medication only when essential, after discussing the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • Pregnant women should exercise extra caution when using the vaginal applicator. Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely for inserting the medication using the applicator. The manufacturer does not recommend using this product during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
  • It is uncertain whether this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
