Metronidazole is employed in the treatment of rosacea, a skin condition characterized by redness, flushing, and pimples on the face. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as nitroimidazole antimicrobials. Its mechanism of action involves halting the growth of bacteria, contributing to the management of symptoms associated with rosacea.

Uses and Dosage

Metronidazole is available as a cream, lotion, or gel designed for topical application to the skin. Typically, it is applied once or twice a day. Use metronidazole precisely as directed, avoiding using more or less of it or using it more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

Ensure that you do not apply metronidazole topical in your eyes, mouth, or vagina. Take care to avoid getting the gel, cream, or lotion in your eyes or mouth. In case of accidental contact with your eyes, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and promptly contact your doctor.

Before applying the medication, clean the affected skin area. Apply a thin layer of the cream, gel, or lotion to the affected area and gently rub it in.

You may use cosmetics on the treated area after waiting at least 5 minutes for the medication to dry.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
