Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine utilized for alleviating symptoms associated with allergies, hay fever, and the common cold. These symptoms may encompass rash, watery eyes, itchy eyes/nose/throat/skin, cough, runny nose, and sneezing. The mechanism of action involves blocking a specific natural substance, histamine, produced by the body during an allergic reaction. By inhibiting another natural substance, acetylcholine the medication also assists in reducing certain bodily fluids, providing relief from symptoms such as watery eyes and a runny nose.
Uses and Dosage
When taking the tablet, capsule, or liquid form of this medication, consume it orally with or without food. Follow the dosing instructions on the label or as directed by your doctor. If stomach upset occurs, you may take this medication with food or milk.
For extended-release capsules, swallow them whole; do not crush or chew them, as breaking them may release the entire drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
If using the liquid form, employ a medication measuring device to accurately measure the prescribed dose; avoid using a household spoon. If the liquid form is a suspension, ensure to shake the bottle well before each dose.
Your dosage is determined by your age, medical condition, and response to therapy. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or take the medication more frequently than recommended by your doctor or per the package instructions without your doctor’s approval.

Caution
- Before taking chlorpheniramine, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, dexchlorpheniramine, or if you have any other allergies. Inactive ingredients in this product may cause allergic reactions or other issues.
- Provide your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have breathing problems, glaucoma, heart problems, high blood pressure, liver disease, seizures, stomach/intestinal problems, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), or difficulty urinating.
- This drug may induce dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. The use of alcohol or marijuana can intensify these effects. Avoid activities requiring alertness or clear vision, such as driving or operating machinery, until you can do so safely.
- Liquid products may contain aspartame, sugar, and/or alcohol. If you have diabetes, alcohol dependence, liver disease, phenylketonuria (PKU), or any other condition requiring dietary restrictions, exercise caution. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely.
- Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, particularly drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, constipation, or difficulty urinating. These effects can increase the risk of falling.
- Children may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug. Instead of causing drowsiness, this drug can often lead to excitement in young children.
- During pregnancy, use this medication only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- Based on information from related drugs, this medication may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Why can’t children less than 6 years old use Chlor-Tripolon?
Children less than 6 years old can’t use Chlor-Tripolon because the dosage is too high for them, which raises the risk for overdose and side effects. In some cases, Chlor-Tripolon have caused overexcitement in children.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Chlor-Tripolon?
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Chlor-Tripolon because this raises your risk of sleepiness and dizziness.
