Description
Indications
This medication is indicated for the treatment of intestinal worm infections, including pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. Pyrantel belongs to the class of pharmaceutical agents known as anthelmintics. Its mechanism of action involves inducing paralysis in the worms, rendering them immobile, thereby facilitating their natural elimination through excretion.
Uses and Dosage
Administer this medication orally, either with or without food, in accordance with the prescribed guidelines or the instructions provided by your healthcare professional. Typically, it is taken as a single dose. Consumption with milk or fruit juice is permissible.
The use of a laxative alongside this medication is unnecessary.
In the case of chewable tablets, thoroughly chew each tablet before swallowing. For the liquid formulation, ensure that the bottle is well-shaken prior to each dose. Employ a specialized measuring device or spoon to accurately measure the prescribed dosage. Avoid employing a household spoon, as it may result in an incorrect dose measurement.
The appropriate dosage of this medication is determined by factors such as body weight, the type of infection being treated, and the response to the treatment. Do not exceed a total of 1 gram in a single dose. If you are self-treating for pinworms, take the medication once and refrain from repeating the dose without first consulting your doctor. Depending on the specific worm infection, your doctor may instruct you to take the medication once or for several days. Additionally, your doctor may advise repeating the dose after a two-week interval.
If you continue to observe the presence of worms in your stool, experience persistent or worsening symptoms, suspect a different type of worm infection, or have concerns about a significant medical issue, seek immediate medical assistance.
