Uses and Dosage
Mitotane is available in tablet form for oral administration. Typically, it is taken three to four times a day. Ensure consistency by taking mitotane around the same times every day.
Take mitotane precisely as directed, avoiding deviations such as taking more or less of it or consuming it more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.
The initiation of mitotane treatment often involves hospitalization. Your doctor will commence with a low dose and gradually increase it.

Inquire about reliable forms of non-hormonal birth control (such as condoms or a diaphragm with spermicide) while using this medication and for a period after the last dose. Your doctor will conduct blood tests to determine when it’s safe to stop using birth control. If you become pregnant, consult your doctor promptly to assess the risks and benefits of this medication.
- Mitotane passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this drug and for a certain period after stopping it. Your doctor will conduct blood tests to determine when it’s safe to resume breastfeeding.
