DDAVP Tablet is an antidiuretic medication that helps control increased thirst and excessive urination and aids in preventing dehydration. It is used to complement the vasopressin hormone generated by the pituitary glands in your body. People with diabetes insipidus don’t produce enough vasopressin, so they’re constantly drinking and peeing. These tablets affect your kidneys and have no effect on the vasopressin hormone in the rest of your body.

DDAVP Mechanism of Action:

  • DDVAP raises the levels of von Willebrand factor (VWF), coagulation factor VIII (FVIII), and tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) in the blood (t-PA). It has a vasodilator effect as well. Despite its widespread therapeutic usage, the cellular mechanism of action of this drug is still unknown.

DDAVP Dose:

Children and Adults

  • Patients should be started on 0.05 mg (1/2 of the 0.1 mg tablet) twice a day and then individually adjusted to their optimal therapeutic dosage.
  • Consult your doctor for the correct dosage.

  • Before taking DDAVP, you should reduce your fluid consumption for a few hours. You should also restrict the quantity of alcohol and caffeine you take in the evening.
  • Bodyweight, other medical problems, and other drugs can all influence the dosage of a prescription that a person requires.
  • It’s critical to follow your doctor’s instructions when using this medicine. If you miss a dosage while using this medicine to manage nighttime urination, skip the missing dose and return to your regular dosing plan.

DDAVP Side Effects:

If any of the following adverse effects develop, contact your doctor as soon as possible:

  • Confusion
  • Flushing
  • A migraine (continuing)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Gaining weight

  • This drug can occasionally cause blood pressure to rise.
  • Cystic fibrosis patients are more prone to have low salt levels in their bodies.
  • Fluid intake should be altered to limit the risk of water retention and low sodium levels in the blood, particularly in very young children and the elderly.
  • Lactose is present in the usual tablet version of this drug. This formulation should not be used if you have galactose intolerance.
  • Lactose is present in the standard tablet version of this drug. This formulation should not be used if you have galactose intolerance (galactosemia, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or Lapp lactase insufficiency).

Frequently Asked Questions:

-What is DDAVP?

It is a hormone given by mouth to prevent nighttime urination (bedwetting). It’s also used to treat central diabetes insipidus, a disease in which the kidneys can’t store water because of a deficiency of antidiuretic hormone (ADH).

-Is DDAVP for bleeding treatment recommended?

Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a drug that is often used to treat and prevent bleeding problems in people who have bleeding disorders such as hemophilia A, von Willebrand’s disease (VWD), and other less prevalent conditions. This can be used in children for the prevention of bleeding, just like in adults.
