Indications
This medication contains digestive enzymes designed to assist in breaking down and digesting fats, starch, and proteins found in food. It is utilized in situations where the pancreas is unable to produce or release sufficient digestive enzymes into the small intestines for proper food digestion. These conditions include chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer, post-pancreatectomy, and post-gastrointestinal bypass surgery.
Uses and Dosage
Take this medication orally with meals and snacks as directed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole; do not crush or chew it, as doing so may irritate the mouth and alter the medication’s effectiveness.
If swallowing is challenging, the capsule can be opened, and the contents mixed with a small amount of liquid or soft food that doesn’t require chewing (such as room-temperature applesauce). Avoid mixing the capsule contents with alkaline food or liquid (e.g., milk, ice cream, tea). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance on foods/liquids to avoid when mixing. Swallow the food or liquid promptly, ensuring you don’t chew the medication. Drink a glass of water or juice after swallowing to ensure complete ingestion. Do not store the medication mixture for later use.
Dosage is determined by your medical condition, diet, weight, and response to treatment. Adhere to the prescribed daily capsule limit provided by your doctor. Taking more capsules than directed will not expedite improvement and may increase the risk of side effects.
Stay well-hydrated while on this medication, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

Caution
- Before taking pancrelipase, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, pork protein, or if you have any other allergies. Inactive ingredients in the product may also cause allergic reactions or other issues.
- Share your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have experienced sudden/severe swelling of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis), sudden worsening of long-term pancreatic disease, gout, kidney disease, high uric acid levels in the blood (hyperuricemia), or intestinal problems.
- For individuals with diabetes, pancrelipase may impact blood sugar levels. Regularly monitor your blood sugar as directed and share the results with your doctor. Adjustments to your diabetes medication, exercise routine, or diet may be necessary.
- During pregnancy, use this medication only when clearly needed. Discuss the associated risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is unclear whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
