New Video Game Helps Lazy Eye Syndrome

As time goes on, studies keep showing the benefits of video games. Tel Aviv University’s eye and brain specialist Dr. Uri Polat of the Goldschleger Eye Research Institute has recently developed a video game that helps treat Amblyopia. For those that don’t know, amblyopia is more commonly known as lazy eye syndrome.

Roughly four percent of children suffer from lazy eye syndrome. The treatment most commonly used was an eye patch which is applied, sometimes for months at a time in attempts to fix the lazy eye. However, this treatment is not always effective, and wearing an eye patch for months may also significantly harm the child’s self-esteem.

However, the video game developed by Dr. Polat, is designed to correct the activity of the neutrons in the brain. Other specialists who have looked at Dr. Polat’s game say that about 20 hours of playing the video game is worth about 500 hours of wearing the patch. Not only is the video game much more effective, but the harm done to the child’s self-esteem and social life are minimal, if they are even existent.

Furthermore, the video game attempts to correct lazy eye syndrome in adults, which many doctors had previously given up on. Previously, if the problem wasn’t corrected by the age of nine, many doctors believe that the problem may never be corrected. Obviously the development of a treatment that may work in adults is monumental. Not only would the game improve the quality of life for many adults and children, but it would also allow many adults to live safer lives by restoring vision of both eyes.

So, once again it seems that video games have come to the rescue. Maybe someday soon people will realize that video games are not a bad thing. They just need to be monitored by parents. Make sure your children don’t play for too long, but let them play.
