Description
Indications
Oral nystatin is employed in the treatment of fungal infections affecting the interior of the mouth and the lining of the stomach and intestines. It belongs to a category of antifungal medications known as polyenes. Its mechanism of action involves halting the growth of fungi responsible for the infection.
Uses and Dosage
Follow your doctor’s instructions when using this medication, typically four times a day. Before each dose, shake the bottle well. Use a special measuring device or spoon to carefully measure the dose. Do not use a household spoon, as it may not provide the correct dose.
Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, follow these steps: Administer half of the dose to one side of the mouth. Swish the medication around the mouth, gargle, and either swallow or spit out as directed. Keep the liquid in your mouth for as long as possible. Then repeat the process with the remaining half of the dose on the other side of the mouth. Avoid eating for 5 to 10 minutes after using this medication.
The duration of treatment may range from several days to several months. Use this medication regularly to derive the maximum benefit, and remember to take it at the same times each day. The dosage is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Continue using this medication until you finish the full prescribed amount, even if symptoms improve within a few days. Ceasing the medication prematurely may allow the infection to persist, leading to a recurrence.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists after several days of treatment or if it worsens.
