Lupron Depot for Endometriosis

Filed under: Uncategorized — robertprice @ 10:21 am

Lupron Depot belongs to a class of drugs called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists. It is used to reduce the human body’s production of specific hormones, natural chemicals that influence the behavior of certain cells. Because Lupron Depot can reduce the production of both male and female hormones, it is used to treat specific conditions in men, women, and children. The manufacturer performed no clinical trials of this drug on birds and makes it clear that veterinarians are prescribing it ‘off label’ something that is commonly done with most human drugs that are used on animals.

This medicine is generally prescribed in women to treat endometriosis. Lupron lowers estrogen levels, which can lead to a decrease in bone compactness in both men and women. Decreased bone compactness could increase your risk of osteoporosis, or easily broken bone disease, later in life. Accordingly, the drug is not usually given for longer than 6 months at a time.

How is Lupron administered?

It is given by injection once a month, every 3 months, or every 4 months, depending on the form you’ve been prescribed. Lupron is to be administered by a trained healthcare professional.

Women who miss their monthly injections of Lupron Depot may experience resumption of menstrual bleeding.

Who can not use Lupron?

What is Flomax taken for?

Filed under: Uncategorized — robertprice @ 3:08 pm

Flomax is used to treat the symptoms of a prostate gland condition called BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as enlarged prostate). Flomax (Tamsulosin) is an alpha-blocker that works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder neck and prostate. Relaxing these muscles leads to relief of symptoms of BPH such as the feeling of needing to urinate frequently or urgently, weak stream, difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, and the need to urinate during the middle of the night.

BPH Facts: The cause of BPH is not known but it affects many men over the age of 50. It is important for men having urinary symptoms to see a physician so a more serious problem such as prostate cancer can be ruled out. BPH symptoms include:

  • Weak urine stream
  • Urgency and leaking or dribbling
  • More frequent urination

How to Take Flomax: Take Flomax by mouth once a day. Take the first dose at bedtime to minimize the chances of getting dizzy or fainting. After the first dose, take your regularly scheduled dose 30 minutes after the same meal each day, or take exactly as directed by your doctor.

Swallow this medication whole. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.

If you have not taken this drug for several days, contact your doctor to re-establish your dosing schedule. To minimize side effects, you will be restarted at the lowest dose. Then the dosage will be gradually increased.

Side Effects of Flomax:

Common side effect can include:

  • Dizziness
  • Unusual weakness
  • Drowsiness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Runny nose

More serious side effects:

  • Sexual problems such as inability to ejaculate or persistent erection
  • Fast heartbeat
