Adipex Weight Loss Medication

Adipex, an appetite suppressant used for the treatment of obesity, is prescribed for short-term use as a part of an overall weight reduction program that includes dieting, exercise, and counseling. It is a stimulant which is similar to an amphetamine. It is recommended for use in those who are excessively overweight and have medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or cholesterol.

Before using Adipex, inform your doctor: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine; if you are taking any herbal products; if you are taking blood thinners; and if you have any stomach problems.

Important Information about Adipex

Adipex can cause primary pulmonary hypertension. It may cause dizziness, blurred vision and restlessness. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities.

Do not take Adipex: if you are allergic to this medicine or to any of its ingredients; if you have have heart disease or high blood pressure; if you have arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries); glaucoma; if have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), or phenelzine (Nardil) in the last 14 days; or if you have a have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Dosage

Always take your medicine(s) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The starting dose is 1 tablet a day, taken before breakfast or up to 2 hours after breakfast. Do not stop or start Adipex without first consulting your doctor.

Adipex Side Effects

Severe Side Effects: An allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), an irregular heartbeat or very high blood pressure, Blurred Vision or hallucinations, abnormal behavior, or confusion.

Common Side Effects: Restlessness or tremor, nervousness or anxiety, headache or dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in your mouth, diarrhea or constipation, impotence or changes in your sex drive.
