Florinef is a corticosteriod used to help the kidneys retain sodium. It works by acting as a replacement for cortisone when the body does not produce enough. It also treats adrenocortical insufficiency due to Addison’s disease and excessive salt loss.

Important information about Florinef

Prolonged use of Florinef may produce posterior subcapsular cataracts, glaucoma with probable damage to the optic nerves, and may develop the establishment of secondary ocular infections due to fungi or viruses.

It may affect blood sugar levels in diabetic patients, therefore blood sugar levels should be monitored closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Carefully monitor salt intake in order to avoid developing high blood pressure, swelling, or weight gain.

This medication can exacerbate hypertension and fluid overload, and patients taking this drug need close follow-up care. Florinef may also lower your body’s ability to fight infection. Avoid contact with people who have colds or infections. Tell your doctor if you notice signs of infection like fever, sore throat, rash, or chills.
