Hydrea

Hydrea is an anti-neoplastic agent, used for treating skin cancer, ovarian cancer, or chronic myelocytic leukemia. It is also combined with radiation to control skin cancers of the head and neck. It works by preventing cancer cells growth and reproduction, resulting in cell death.

Before using Hydrea, inform your doctor of any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine; if you are taking any herbal products or supplements; if you are taking blood thinners; if you have stomach problems; if you have peptic ulcers; if you have any other medical conditions like liver or kidney function impairment, heart or lung problems.

Important Warnings

  • Hydrea may lower your body's ability to fight infection. It may also reduce the number of clot-forming cells (platelets) in your blood. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations in which bruising or injury may occur.
  • Avoid any of the vaccinations with live virus vaccines while you are taking Hydrea.
  • Use Hydrea with caution in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its effects.
  • Hydrea is not recommended for use in children.

Hydrea Side Effects

Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness.

Serious: Rash, purple, blue, or black discoloration of the skin or nails, loss of feeling in one area of the body, sores on the skin or in the mouth, foul-smelling substance oozing from the skin, swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs.
